When you head off-road a person has to be prepared for whatever may happen during your journey. Weather or Mother Nature can definately slow you down without the proper equipment. Sometimes it’s just your own carelessness that creates the problem. No matter what it’s up to YOU to recover your vehicle. Hope for the BEST but prepare for the WORST.

This is some of the Equipment I carry with me at all times.

Not only are kinetic recovery ropes more durable than snatch straps, they are also less prone to failure and way more convenientwhen it comes to packing away after use. Snatch Block

A Snatch Block is a heavy-duty pulley inside a metal casing. It is primarily designed for handling heavy goods, working as a pully point that can redirect the course of a winch line.

Snatch Blocks allow you to change the direction of a winches cable by off setting the anchor point, allowing you to pull in a three point motion. Sturdy and dependable, snatch blocks are ideal for transferring loads over short distances and are commonly used in recovery situations.

Recovery Boards

Recovery Boards give you three valuable ways to help a stuck 4x4 become unstuck, and that is,

TRACTION: far better grip than wet rock, mud or snow.

FLOATATION: stops the vehicle from sinking into soft ground like sand, snow or mud.

CLEARANCE: they help raise the tires and therefore the entire vehicle to get over obstacles , like rocks.

Recovery Boards vary in price. You can find them for under a hundred dollars to several hundred dollars. Do your research on what type of terrain you plan on using them in. Not to mention how often you plan on using them.

Pliosaur Recovery Traction Boards with Jack Lift Base is what I chose.

The main material is reinforced strong nylon which can strengthen the weight, impact and UV resistance. Besides it can offer ten tons of load cappacity on the flat ground.

Airing Down

Tire Deflator Kits

Aired down tires have a wider footprint and float better over softsand and rough terrain. A good place to start is 20 - 25 lbs. In snow or sand 15 lbs. may be required.

There are many ways to deflate tires. Some deflate all four tires at once others one at a time.

Airing Up

Air Compressor

When you decide to lower your tire air pressure for traction, you have to air back up for pavement. I purchased this Pittsburgh Automotive 12V 150 PSI Compact Air Compressor at Harbor Freight.

Fully Inflates tires in three minutes or less

up to 1.35 CFM air flow

Overload protection

Sled-type base prevents contamination from dust and dirt.

Miscelaneous Hand Tools

Always carry a set of hand tools that work with your vehicle. SAE or Metric I carry both. You never know whose vehicle you may be working on.

Tire Plug Kit

A flat tire will eventually be inevitable if you wheel enough. How you deal with it will be what seperates the ones who have a miserable time in the dirt and the ones who have the best campfire stories. Hopefully before the sun goes down. An ARB Tire Plug Kit is ideal to fix everything from minor punctures to gnarly gashes just to get off the trail to a safe spot.
